Toric
A toric digital architecture
1. Executive Summary
The transformation of LEAD Gestão into Toric required a digital presence capable of reflecting its strategic consulting maturity while maintaining technical agility. The primary directive was to engineer a platform that could be fully managed without reliance on legacy page builders, complex backend configurations, or continuous developer intervention. By adopting a fully-native WordPress block theme architecture, the resulting application delivers a highly accessible, performant, and easily maintainable digital ecosystem. This approach drastically minimizes the friction of content creation, allowing internal teams to deploy visually consistent, complex layouts in a matter of minutes.
2. The Challenge
Corporate websites often suffer from fragmented architectures where marketing teams rely on heavy, third-party page builders to create content. This introduces significant technical debt, slow load times, and a brittle user interface that easily breaks under unexperienced hands. The core challenge for the Toric project was to build a system relying 100% on native WordPress block functionalities. The goal was to bridge the gap between bespoke visual design and absolute ease-of-use, ensuring that an editor with no coding background could assemble a new page rapidly without compromising the brand’s strict design system or generating unoptimized code.
3. Tech Stack
The project was built using a modern, stripped-down stack focused on native ecosystem capabilities:
- Core Framework: WordPress (Block Theme / Full Site Editing capabilities).
- Styling Engine: Native
theme.jsonconfiguration generating CSS variables, supplemented by scoped CSS modules (style.cssusing modern container queries and CSS nesting). - Animation & Interactions: GSAP (GreenSock Animation Platform) for high-performance, scroll-triggered animations.
- Data Architecture: Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) mapped directly into the block editor via the WordPress Block Bindings API.
- Custom Tooling: A bespoke
toric-coreplugin handling custom PHP logic, mail provider mapping, and dynamic post counts.
4. Under the Hood (Architecture)
The architecture of Toric completely eschews traditional PHP template hierarchies in favor of a declarative JSON and HTML approach. The theme.json file serves as the singular source of truth for the design system. It dictates a strict palette (e.g., Azul Claro, Azul Médio, Preto) and specific typographic fluid scaling (clamp() functions for spacing and fonts).
This strict architectural boundary is what fuels the platform’s extreme ease-of-use. Because the styling is globally tokenized, editors interact with a pure WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interface. Layouts are constructed using pre-defined Template Parts (such as cabe-alho-azul-claro.html or navigation-overlay-preto.html). Content routing is handled via native query blocks utilizing enhancedPagination:true, which provides a seamless, client-side routed experience akin to a Single Page Application (SPA) without the JavaScript overhead. Accessibility is treated as a first-class citizen; custom blocks and navigation overlays actively implement ARIA labels (e.g., aria-hidden="true", aria-label="Share"), ensuring structural compliance.
5. UX & Performance
The most significant triumph of this architecture is its unparalleled “easy-to-useness” for the end-user. For an inexperienced content manager, building a new landing page is no longer an exercise in trial and error. The editor simply adds a pre-configured Block Pattern. Because spacing, typography, and color palettes are constrained by theme.json ("spacingSizes", "fluid" typography), the user physically cannot break the layout.
If a marketing team needs to launch a new campaign page, it requires only a few clicks to drop in a “Hero” block and a “Query” block. The system automatically restricts their color choices to the approved duotone and palette arrays. This results in page creation times dropping from days to mere minutes. Furthermore, by discarding heavy visual builders, the DOM size is drastically reduced, leading to near-instantaneous rendering times and zero Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) issues.
6. The Results
Toric successfully launched a digital platform that operates entirely on native block functionalities. The infrastructure scales effortlessly due to the decoupled nature of block bindings and the toric-core plugin. By enforcing a unified design system strictly at the core level, the project ensures high brand consistency, lower server processing overhead, and an accessible interface that ranks highly in automated performance audits.
7. Retrospective
Adhering strictly to the native WordPress Full Site Editing paradigm is highly advantageous for long-term maintainability. The Toric platform stands as a textbook example of how a fully-native configuration can out-perform legacy plugin-heavy builds in both security and editor experience.
